Caseflow is a web application built for the United States Department of Veterans Affairs to process US military veterans’ claims for healthcare benefits, educational reimbursement, and more.

We built a core function of Caseflow, the claims queue.

The claims queue is used by judges, attorneys, and Veterans Service Organizations to:

  • work claims in priority order
  • assign and track them through VA administration
  • schedule hearings for veterans
  • make claims decisions

We also built parts of the claims search view and contributed a bit of user research and design work across the app.

Caseflow is built with React and Ruby on Rails, and the code is open source.

Results:

Cut claims time from >5 years to <6 months

$50 million in cost savings over 5 years
